According to the New York Times and its investigation, tariff fraud is now soaring spawned by solicitations to U.S. companies by shipping companies in China suggesting schemes to evade the new high tariffs. “Beat U.S. Tariffs” read an email to companies, which promised to cap the tariffs at a flat 10%. “You ship worry free.”
The communications are also on TikTok and other social media platforms. The article says that that these companies may be moving goods to other companies and shipping them into the United States after altering the actual country of origin, a technique called transshipment.
These tactics makes it harder for honest importers to compete and also cost the U.S billions of dollars.
