Chinese military evolving ability to cyberhack U.S. critical infrastructure including power, water, communications and transportation according to the Washington Post

The Chinese military is expanding and funding its capabilities to hack into and disrupt critical infrastructure sites the United States, including power, water, communications, and transportation systems, the Washington Post has reported, citing government officials and security experts.

The cyber hackings are thought to be a part of a larger military campaign called “Volt Typhoon,” which may seek to attack and disrupt American infrastructure in the event of a war.

This past year, Chinese military hackers have hacked into computer systems of about two dozen critical entities, according to the article.

Apparenty, none of the cyber-intrusions affected control systems that operate pumps, pistons or any critical function. However, these assaults allow entry in many places where we do not know where the attackers are inside the computer software and they lurk there until the time is right for them to assert control over these systems.
