UBS, the Swiss bank said that it will pay $985.6 million to settle a case over its role in helping wealthy clients evade taxes. UBS and former employees have been under investigation in France since 2013. UBA previously admitted that it helped Americans evase taxes and paid a $780 million settlement and revealed the names of thousands of secret account-holders. UBS agreed to the recent settlement but did noit explicitly admit to criminal conduct. Also, the specific names of the individual clients who evaded taxes through UBS in the French case, have not been publicly released in the French context. In other international cases (like the U.S.), thousands of names were disclosed after settlements, but this disclosure practice has so far not extended to French clients with the current resolution.
