More on Medicare’s proposed rule to set minimum for nursing home staffing

Yesterday, I published a blog relating to the federal government’s increasing scrutiny relating to nursing homes, the staffing and levels of treatment and invoicing to Medicare and Medicaid. Here is some additional details about what’s coming;

*The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has proposed a rule to set a federal floor for staffing levels, so that nursing home owners cannot slash staffing to unsafe levels. This proposal would require every facility to have a certain minimum number of registered nurses and nurse aids to help provide routine care and to staff according to resident needs based on a robust assessment of the facility’s residents.

*CMS is also announcing new efforts to improve enforcement of existing staffing standards, currently requiring nursing homes to provide sufficient staffing and eight hours per day of registered nurse care.
