Chipmakers receiving US federal funds are barred from expanding in China for ten under a new rule from the Commerce Department. Companies that received funding must not engage in joint research ‘with a foreign entity of concern’ “Recipients will be required to enter into an agreement restricting their ability to expand semiconductor manufacturing capacity in foreign countries of concern for 10 years after taking the money” said the U.S. Commerce Department Secretary Gina Raimondo.
