Since 1980 U.S. has given Egypt $50 Billion in military aid and $30 Billion in economic aid according to the WSJ, it is sending 150 helicopter engines to Russia

Here is something to ponder. Since 1980 to the present, the United States has given (not loaned) $50 Billion in military aid and $30 Billion in economic aid to Egypt. In 2020. the U.S. House of Representatives passed its foreign affairs appropriations bill for Fiscal Year 2021, which includes $1.3 billion in foreign military financing to Egypt, the same level of funding it has received since 1987. Two newly updated POMED fact sheets illustrate the complicated military assistance relationship between the United States and Egypt. In September of this year a package was approved for $235 million for military aid o Egypt.

In today’s Wall street Journal, an article says that Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah has agreed to send 150 helicopter engines to Russia, according to three people with knowledge of the incident. apparently, according to the article, Russia has been selling arms to different countries including Egypt but now wants some of them back to replenish the stocks of weapons. Here is the link for the WSJ article but it does not address why the U.S. would want to continue to fund Egypt when it is assisting a sanctioned state engaged in a war against Ukraine.https://www.wsj.com/world/russia-turns-to-longtime-arms-customers-to-boost-war-arsenal-5111bac4?mod=hp_lista_pos1
