Smartphones, laptop computers and other electronics exempted from Chinese tariffs

By Jeffrey A. Newman

Smartphones, laptop computers, memory chips and other electronics are now exempted from tariffs on China, which could ease an increase in cost for electronic products imported to the U.S.

In addition there is also a new exemption for imported machines used to create semiconductors, flat screen TVs, tablets and desktop computers from the 25% tariff and 10% tariff on countries around the world. These changes are expected to benefit Apple, Microsoft, HP, Dell and Microsoft which make much of their products outside this country.
