U.S. to ban certain investments in Chinese technology companies in AI and semiconductor segments

The U.S. will ban private-equity and venture investments in certain Chinese technology companies The restrictions relate to direct investments in semiconductors, quantum computing and artificial intelligence and concerns national security interests that advancements in these areas could result in weapons used against the U.S. in military conflicts. These restrictions represent a major shift for major investors and the U.S. foreign policy which stems from growing concerns over China’s aggressive spying on the U.S. and increased tensions over Taiwan. It also relates to projections as to the significance of artificial intelligence advances and how control over this arena could tip the balance of power between the U.S. and China.
