The Chinese telecom erquipment manufacturer ZTE Corporation may have to pay in excess of $1 billion to the United States Government to settle a U.S. investigation into ZTE for allegedly violating the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) in South America and other regions, Reuters sais. The act prohibits payments or anything of value to foreign officials to obtain business. ZTE lready paid some $2 billion in penalties to U.S. authorities over export violations during President Donald Trump’s first term.
