NUCLEAR PLANT MANAGER FILES WHISTLEBLOWER SUIT AGAINST CALIF. UTILITY FOR SAFETY VIOLATIONS

A former manager of the San Onofre nuclear plant is suing his former employer Southern California Edison for wrongfully terminating him in retaliation for his efforts to reveal safety violations. Paul Diaz, the whistleblower says that Southern California Edison was warned by nuclear regulators in March of 2010 that shortcuts in safety were taking place, incomplete testing was done, falsification of records was evident and that there was a “culture of coverup” The San Onofre nuclear plant is one of California’s two nuclear powerplans and is located along the Pacific in northern San Diego County about 60 miles south of Los Angeles.
