In a first of its kind dismissal, a U.S. diplomat was fired over a romantic relationship he admitted having with a Chinese woman with alleged ties to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). Previously the State Department had imposed a ban on all American government personnel in China and family members and contractors with security clearances from any romantic or sexual relationship with Chinese citizens.
Tommy Pigott, a State Department spokesman, said in a statement that the diplomat in question was dismissed from the foreign service after President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio reviewed the case and determined that he had āadmitted concealing a romantic relationship with a Chinese national with known ties to the Chinese Communist Party.ā
The individual diplomat who was fired but who has not been named, did express concerns on video suggesting that his partner could have been a spy and he acknowledged that her father was directly involved with the CCP according to new reports.
